One note of caution: We hear countless stories of individuals who go to an untrained lash technician because the cost is low. They receive a substandard set of lashes that is clumpy, painful and often damaging to their lashes. A proper application of lashes is not painful during or after the procedure. Eyelash extension application is an exacting process that takes skill and time. If the cost is very cheap, you should certainly question the training of the technician as well as the quality of the product. These same individuals often end up seeking out an Xtreme Lashes® Eyelash Extensions Stylist after they try the cheap alternatives. Ultimately, most have realized from experience that the old adage “you get what you pay for” is often true.

Q: Do eyelash extensions cause damage to natural lashes?

This is one of the most common misconceptions about extensions. The media has raised questions regarding the effects of eyelash extensions on natural lashes. Unfortunately, many of the reports have not included complete facts or in depth information on the subject. PROPERLY APPLIED eyelash extensions DO NOT cause damage to natural lashes.

Situations where damage has been or can be done to the natural lashes are typically caused when untrained professionals apply semi-permanent eyelash extensions. Xtreme Lashes® strongly believes it is irresponsible to sell eyelash extension products to anyone who has not been properly trained. The application process is very meticulous, requiring usage of a strong bonding and long lasting adhesive and sharp tweezers near the eye area. Only under the supervision of a well qualified Certified Trainer, can a student learn how to properly apply lashes. They learn how to position their hands, pick up the lash extension, isolate a single natural lash, and apply the lash extension safely and beautifully. In fact, a qualified trainer is trained to work with each individual’s specific needs to help him or her overcome weaknesses and utilize strengths. Even proper posture and table height is assessed.

Which brings us to our next topic…

Q: Why does it take so long to apply eyelash extensions?

A full set of eyelash extensions takes anywhere from 90 to 150 minutes to apply. It’s a big chunk of time, right? Why does it take so long? Xtreme Lashes considers a full set of eyelash extensions to be 70 extensions or more per eye. To apply each one of these 70+ extensions, your lash stylist will take a set tweezers and separate your natural lashes until they find one – just one – teeny, tiny lash. Then they’ll hold that lash apart from all your other lashes while they use their other hand to apply one single lash extension to it. They’ll do this 70 times on each eye – a total of 140 times!
When you think about it, it’s actually quite amazing that they get as speedy as they do. Many experienced lash stylists can have you in and out (and looking fabulous) in under 2 hours with your full lash set! Still, 2 hours is a big chunk of time to set aside, even when you’ll be asleep for most of it. Thankfully, if you plan to maintain your eyelash extensions and you come in regularly for relash appointments, you only have to commit to the 2 hour appointment once. Relash appointments are typically less than an hour and sometimes as little as 30 minutes.

Eyelash Extensions Myths And Facts explained by Xtreme Lashes®
There are tons of myths running around about eyelash extensions. Here are just a few of the top ones along with the facts behind them!

MYTH: Eyelash extensions make your natural lashes fall out
FACT: Your eyelashes are constantly growing and shedding, just like the hair on your head. An eyelash has a finite life of 60-90 days. They are supposed to fall out. Since they are at different stages of the growth cycle, most people lose 1-3 natural lashes per day on average and never notice it because lashes are so small. Properly applied eyelash extensions do not affect this natural growth cycle but you may notice the shedding more than before because your lashes are darker and thicker with the extensions attached.

MYTH: When my eyelash extensions came out, my natural lashes came with them.
FACT: In actuality, the reverse is happening: when your natural lashes grew out, they took the extensions with THEM! If good adhesive is used and proper technique is applied, eyelash extensions are designed to stay adhered to the natural lash until it grows out. If you are seeing eyelash extension shedding and your natural lash ISN’T still attached to the extension, you are losing your extensions prematurely and should consult with your stylist as to the cause.

MYTH: Eyelash extensions hurt.
FACT: If eyelash extensions are applied properly, you shouldn’t feel anything at all. If your eyelash extensions are hurting, something is wrong with your lash application. Read our post on eyelash extensions pain.

MYTH: I had eyelash extensions for awhile and after I had them removed, my natural lashes were shorter.
FACT: Properly applied eyelash extensions do not affect the growth of natural lashes before, during or after application. Most people get used to how they look with their eyelash extensions on, though. When their extensions are gone, their natural lashes SEEM so much smaller and thinner because they aren’t used to seeing them bare. It’s a case of perception overriding reality. If you actually measure your lashes before and after, you would find no change. Remember – the application of eyelash extensions is a highly skilled craft and should only be attempted by trained professionals. Always ask to see proof of training before you let anyone work on your eyes!

Q:What are faux mink eyelash extensions?

Faux mink eyelash extensions are a ground-breaking addition to Xtreme Lashes®. Say hello to our softest, most luxurious lashes yet! Although not the first of its kind, through internal research and development with extended focus on beauty, these lashes have surpassed industry standards in their barely-there weightlessness, natural appearance and feathery effect; resulting in a beautiful texture very much like real eyelashes.

This improved fiber results in long-lasting* wear and a more seamless attachment, when used in conjunction with the Xtreme Lashes® application system and adhesives.

Q: What are the advantages of faux mink eyelash extensions?

When choosing false lashes, it is important to know what it is you are seeking. If you want something as realistic as possible, then mink lashes are more than likely what you will be after. These are gorgeous false eyelashes that feel and look like the real thing. The quality for both mink eyelashes and a normal false lash can be something of remarkable beauty and elegance. These can look like the real things for every wearer, even fooling everyone around them into thinking they are the genuine thing. Any false lash, no matter the kind it is, can look real on a person wearing it, which is really what a wearer is after.

One thing that makes every false lash fun is that every one of them, even mink eyelashes, can have their looks changed, which is something real eyelashes are not capable of doing. From something simple like changing the look of the lashes to something a bit more stunning like adding color and beads, there is so much that every wearer can take from them. You can even keep the realistic look of mink lashes and still do this.
